May 4 was a busy Saturday as usual at Ghiloni Park. Soccer teams played. Families filled the playground. Walkers walked round the track. Fortunately the 6th annual Marlborough Earth Day Fair had fair weather with blue skies. We were set up as usual on the basketball court and enjoyed our day in the sun.
I want to thank experts and visitors who shared the day with us. Tom Hanson talked about CSA shares (Community Supported Agriculture) at Hanson’s Farm. New England Clean Energy owner, Mark Durrenberger, explained solar installations. Andrea Belford from the Alt E Store baked smores in a solar oven. AMSA displayed their curriculum. Hillside School showed their solar array and greenhouse. Girl scouts had fun activities. Stevie’s Eatery grilled burgers and portabellos. Assabet Valley students helped with the fair and the recycling event. Singer PE James played boomer ballads and two high school student groups filled the air with music. Visitors came from down the street and across the city to check out the fair. It was a fun, informative event.
Thanks to residents and businesses for making the fair happen: Martin and EL Harvey handled recycling; Bob supplied tables; Paul organized music; Ozo and Pat videotaped; Andrea helped with outreach. Thanks to the media and many more who helped make it a success.
Many thanks to past leaders for preserving Ghiloni Park for all of us to enjoy.
A couple hundred familiar and new faces joined us to celebrate Earth Day. Find photos at our new website: www.GreenMarlborough.org.
See you next year,
