Green Marlborough Gets “Green Award”

Green Marlborough, the local environmental group, received the “Green Award” from the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce during an annual awards ceremony on March 4, 2010 at the Marlborough Royal Plaza.  Six Green Marlborough representatives were part of the 200+ crowd of chamber members, community business people, and government officials at the event.

The founder of Green Marlborough, Jen Boudrie, accepted the award on behalf of Green Marlborough.  “It’s such an honor to accept this award on behalf of Green Marlborough and the Massachusetts Green Career Conference and the many residents, municipal and business groups and individuals who are working hard to protect our precious, precious land, air and water.  It’s so wonderful that our local chamber recognizes our efforts.”

The annual Green Awards in the previous two years went to Evergreen Solar and Boston Scientific.

The award included an etched, glass plaque from the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce, an achievement certificate from the mayor of Marlborough, and statements of recognition from four government officials:  U.S. Senator John Kerry, U.S. Congressman James McGovern, Massachusetts State Senator James Eldridge, and Massachusetts State Representative Danielle Gregoire.

The following summary was printed in the event program.

The Business Awards Program – Green Marlborough Excerpt

Green Marlborough is proud to accept the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce “Green Award” in recognition of our environmental mission and our impact in the community.

We are a group of residents and business people who are thinking globally and doing our part locally to help make a healthier environment. Our mission is to raise awareness and engage business, residential, and government groups and individuals.  We create proactive initiatives that support environmental sustainability that include issues on energy, water, transportation, land use, waste, and community involvement.

Green Marlborough has become a leader, a resource and an incubator for local environmental efforts.  Our successes result from the collaboration of many residential, municipal and business groups and individuals who are working together to protect our environment.

We have accomplished groundbreaking achievements, for example:

  • Marlborough’s first Energy and Environmental Inventory in 2006, the Sustainability Action Plan in 2008, and the Green Communities Report in 2009.
  • Marlborough’s first Energy and Environmental Taskforce and Sustainability Action Plan Taskforce
  • Municipally-owned traffic lights changed to energy-efficient LEDs
  • Community Events such as the Marlborough Earth Day Fair, Solar and Energy Star Tour, Walk with Green Marlborough, Bike Marlborough, and the Stream Teams
  • Green Marlborough local access TV show, and the Green Marlborough website

As a result our waterways are cleaner, people are making more environmentally sustainable choices, and we are protecting and enjoying our local natural resources, too.

Green Marlborough’s founder also created the first Massachusetts Green Career Conference in Marlborough in 2009.  As the Green Economy emerges this conference brings attention to the wonderful resources we have in Marlborough for future business growth and job development.  This conference was an excellent forum for experts in government, business, and education who provided green career guidance and industry updates.  This conference attracted 300 people and was sold out 5 days in advance.

Green Marlborough celebrates everyone’s effort to protect the environment, in large and small ways, every day and every year.  We look forward to continued work with residents, businesses, and the government to protect our health and environmental health.

Thank you to the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce for this annual “Green Award” and for recognizing Green Marlborough’s efforts in the community.
