On January 21, 2013 Green Marlborough announced the brand new Marlborough Solar Discount Program. It does two things:
1. Raises money for our local environmental non-profit organization, Green Marlborough.
2. Provides discounts on solar electric and hot water systems for Marlborough homes and businesses, making solar even more cost-effective than usual.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New Program Offers Marlborough Residents and Businesses Solar Energy Discounts and Raises Money for Local Non-profit Green Marlborough
MARLBOROUGH, Mass., Jan. 21, 2013 — For every Marlborough resident and business installing a discounted solar energy system through the new Marlborough Solar Discount Program, solar installation company New England Clean Energy will donate at least $250 to Green Marlborough.
The Marlborough Solar Discount Program will run February 1 through April 30. In addition to raising money for the Marlborough environmental organization, the program will offer discounts on solar electric and hot water systems to Marlborough home-owners and business-owners, encouraging them to go green while reducing their energy bills and making money through the sale of “solar credits”.
“Marlborough city leaders, businesses and citizens have a strong record of protecting the environment, so they will likely provide energetic support for the Marlborough Solar Discount Program. The beauty of this program is that it helps local businesses lock in low energy rates through solar, while helping raise funds for a local non-profit organization. Both things ultimately benefit the City as a whole,” said Susanne Morreale Leeber, president and CEO of the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce.
In 2011, the Commonwealth designated Marlborough a “Green Community”. Last year, the city increased its recycling rate 7 percent and installed a community garden. About two dozen homes already have installed solar electric systems.
“Encouraging the installation of more solar, which reduces fossil-fuel emissions, is a perfect fit with Green Marlborough’s mission. Based on community involvement in our other programs like the Earth Day Fair and Walks with Green Marlborough, I expect a lot of interest in the Marlborough Solar Discount Program,” said Green Marlborough founder and Director Jennifer Boudrie.
“There has never been a better time to go solar. State rebates, federal and state tax credits, the ability to sell solar credits, and dropping solar panel prices mean solar electric systems pay for themselves in four to eight years, less than half the time it took just a few years ago. This is great news for the Earth and for consumers,” Boudrie said.
“The Marlborough Solar Discount Program is an example of neighboring communities working together for the benefit of all. With the support of folks in town, New England Clean Energy can raise funds to support Green Marlborough, which will then put that money to use in the community,” said Mark Durrenberger, president of Hudson-based New England Clean Energy.
The program discount is available to home-owners and businesses signing up to buy solar energy systems, or enter Power Purchase Agreements with no money down, before the program deadline. The more systems installed, the greater the discount for everyone. Discounts start at $200 and go as high as $1,000 per customer.
For every residential system sold, New England Clean Energy will donate $250 to Green Marlborough. For business systems, donations range from $250 to $2,000, depending on the size of the system.

Green Marlborough was founded in 2007 by a group of local residents dedicated to working together on environmental issues to make a difference locally. The organization helps local residents, community organizations, and businesses help the community, the environment and themselves. Green Marlborough focuses on education, reducing energy consumption, promoting energy efficiency and green technologies, and community involvement. Green Marlborough hosts local programs including the Green Marlborough TV series, the Marlborough Earth Day Fair, and Solar Tours; and sponsors giveaways of reusable shopping bags, energy-efficient light bulbs, and low-flow water kits.
New England Clean Energy has put more solar on Massachusetts homes than any other local installer. The company designs, engineers and installs solar electric and solar hot water systems, as well as solar attic fans and solar parking lot lighting systems, for homes and businesses. The company has installed more than 200 solar systems throughout Central Massachusetts since being founded in 2006. MassSolarInfo.com recently awarded the company five honors, including Highest Customer Satisfaction among Massachusetts solar installers.
